About Pakistan

April 07, 2026

The flag of Pakistan, officially adopted on August 11, 1947, is a green field with a vertical white stripe at the hoist, featuring a white crescent moon and five-pointed star at its center. The dark green represents the Muslim majority of Pakistan, while the white stripe symbolizes religious minorities and their rights, reflecting the country’s commitment to inclusion and pluralism. The crescent signifies progress, and the star denotes light and knowledge.

The flag’s proportions are 2:3, with the white stripe occupying one-quarter of the width, and the crescent and star carefully centered within the green field.

Designed by Syed Amir-uddin Kedwaii, the flag is rooted in the All-India Muslim League’s flag of 1940, embodying Pakistan’s historical struggle for independence and its vision as a sovereign, Islamic republic.

The Pakistani national anthem, titled “Qaumi Tarana”, was officially adopted in August 1954. Its music was composed by Ahmed Ghulamali Chagla in 1949, while the Urdu lyrics were penned by Hafeez Jalandhari.

The anthem is notable for its poetic elegance, emphasizing themes of patriotism, unity, faith, and devotion to the homeland, without directly mentioning the country’s name.

The anthem is set in a short meter of 30 seconds, making it one of the shortest national anthems in the world, yet rich in musical and symbolic significance.
